Obituaries & Death Notices: L Surnames

Littleton, William F.

William F. Littleton, aged 65, oldest brother of Mayor Jesse M. Littleton, and a lifelong resident of Roane county, died Friday at his home in Kingston.  Since his health failed four years ago he had been confined to his home the greater part of the time, but recently his improvement enabled him to be about a great deal and to visit Kingston several times this week.  He arose Friday morning, at an early breakfast and started to read the paper, when he was stricken.  He died very suddenly.  Before his health failed he was a powerful man physically.  The body will be laid to rest in the Littleton cemetery, south of the Tennessee river, near Kingston, at 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning.  Mayor Littleton and a younger brother, Thomas J. Littleton, Jr., left Saturday morning for Kingston to attend the funeral.  It is probable that Martin Littleton, of New York, and Charles C. and M. L. Littleton, of Texas, other brothers, will not be able to attend the funeral.  Born in Roane county on July 2, 1852, William F. Littleton was the oldest of the eighteen children of the late Capt. Thomas J. Littleton.  Capt. Littleton died in 1915 at the age of 84.  William F. Littleton was a farmer.  For years he had served as justice of the peace.  For quite a time he was tax assessor of Roane county, and for two years he was postmaster at Kingston.  He was married to Miss Nancy Eblen forty-six years ago.  The wife and three children, Charles and Thomas Littleton, of Montana, and Miss Sallie Littleton, of Kingston, survive him.  Source: "W.
